AI for Restaurants: Reviews, Specials, Catering and Orders

AI for restaurants is best at the jobs that happen after close. It answers Google and Yelp reviews, turns a phone photo of tonight's special into a post, quotes catering inquiries, drafts next week's schedule and builds the vendor order from your par sheet. It doesn't take orders, run your POS or check allergens for you.

What it does

What can AI do for a restaurant?

It takes the writing, posting and spreadsheet work off the owner or GM. The jobs a single location or a small group repeats every week:

Review replies

You ask
“Answer this week's Google and Yelp reviews”
You get back
A reply to each, thanking regulars by dish, owning the bad night, never arguing

Specials and menu posts

You ask
“Here's a photo of the halibut special, post it”
You get back
A cleaned-up photo, a caption and a story-sized version

Catering inquiries

You ask
“Quote this office lunch for 40 next Thursday”
You get back
A reply with menu options and a price from your catering sheet, held for you

Staff schedule

You ask
“Draft next week's schedule from availability and covers”
You get back
A schedule grid with gaps and overtime flagged

Vendor orders

You ask
“Build Monday's produce order from the par sheet and counts”
You get back
An order list by vendor, with what's under par highlighted

Day one

What does that look like in a real week?

Three requests in a row on a Tuesday afternoon:

  1. Our new brunch menu is in this PDF. Make a post for Instagram and update the menu page on our site.
  2. Write the email to our list about it, with two photos.
  3. And reply to the three reviews from Sunday's brunch rush.

You check one post, one menu page, one email and three replies. Then you get back to service. The same thread knows your menu, so the next catering inquiry gets quoted from it. The review replies follow the same approval rules as the rest of your customer messages, covered in review replies and customer messages.

What should a restaurant not hand to AI?

Let it write and post. Keep people on food safety, money and anything said on the phone.

  • Allergen answers. The FDA lists nine major food allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame (FDA). AI can format your allergen sheet. Your kitchen confirms what's in each dish, and a guest's allergy question gets a person.
  • Phone and online orders. Bento doesn't answer your phone or take orders. Keep your POS and ordering tools (Toast, Square or whatever you use) for that.
  • Payroll and tips. Schedules can be drafted. Pay runs through your payroll provider.
  • Fake reviews. Never ask any tool to write reviews of your own place. Replying to real ones is the job.

How does Bento fit with your POS, website and socials?

Bento works next to the systems that run service. It doesn't replace them. It reads what you give it: menu PDFs, phone photos, your catering price sheet, sales or count exports from the POS, staff availability in a spreadsheet. From those it writes and designs the posts, replies, quotes, schedules and orders above.

It works in Gmail, Slack, Notion and thousands of other apps. It can also publish a simple website or menu page at a real link.

It's one subscription for every kind of AI. The photo cleanup, the caption, a 10-second video of the special, even a voiceover for it come from one place instead of three apps.

Plans start at $20 a month, the whole team (owner, GM, chef) is included at no extra cost per person, and there's a 7-day free trial. See every plan.

It is not a POS, an ordering system or a phone line.

FAQ

Questions restaurants ask first.

Can AI answer restaurant phone calls?

Bento doesn't. If missed calls are your problem, look at a dedicated phone-ordering service. Bento covers the messages and posts around the phone.

Is it safe to use AI for allergen information?

Only as a formatting tool. The source of truth is your kitchen's recipe list, checked by a person, and guests with allergies should always reach a staff member.

Will it work with Toast or Square?

It works with the reports you export and the apps you connect. Most restaurants start with sales and item exports for ordering and leave the POS alone.

Do review replies sound like a robot?

Not once it has read your past replies and menu. Ask it to mention the dish and the server, keep it short, and hold every reply for approval until you trust the tone.
